Your Mirror

Since I was a child, I have confirmed my own existence by seeing myself reflected in my sister. Born 25 months after me, our childhood was one of an intense, emotional bond. The similarities and fixations we shared allowed us to create elaborate fantasies, worlds within our own, dictated by our rules, our desires, and our personas. I am still able to gaze back into the world where only she and I exist as imperfect copies of each other. A world where our femininity becomes the ultimate expression of our existence.

I began to document my sister obsessively, photographing her and myself in moments of stillness and unrest, attempting subconsciously to look back into the daydreams of our childhood. Through these images, I am trying to illustrate the existence of our mirrored world, the disguises we wear, our performance, and our inevitable similarity as siblings.

In February 2020, this work was exhibited in a solo show at the School of Visual Arts BFA Photography and Video gallery space.
